The Milwaukee metropolitan area added 5,300 jobs in November compared with the same month of 2010, making it one of four metro areas in Wisconsin to see job gains, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
The Milwaukee area jobs number was an improvement over last year, but the total job count of 818,600 this November was still 4,700 less than the final jobs counts for October. Statewide, the 2.74 million job count in November was 14,600 lower than October 2011, but 4,500 higher than November of 2010. November year-over-year job counts also were higher in La Crosse, Oshkosh-Neenah and Sheboygan.
Unemployment rates in the Milwaukee area also dropped to 7.2 percent in November, compared with 7.4 percent the preceding month and 7.6 percent in November 2010. The overall Wisconsin unemployment rate was 6.6 percent in November, which also was lower than October 2011 and November 2010.
